Eagle enables its users to store, edit, and distribute a selection of digital forms to their contacts, particularly for rental applications, reference checks, and other purposes. It's possible to edit Eagle's preset forms according to your preferences.
How do I access and edit my forms?
To view and edit forms, click on the icon in the top right of the screen to enter the Settings tab of the software.
Then, simply navigate to the section marked 'forms' in the bar to the left-hand side of the screen.
This will display a list of all forms currently stored within the software. From this section, you can use the 'view responses' tool to view and manage all responses to a form submitted by your contacts. To edit the content any form, simply select the purple 'edit' button next to the form's name.
How do I add and edit form fields and other elements?
Once you've entered the form editing screen, simply click on any question or piece of content to edit its properties- these form elements are referred to as 'blocks'. Alternatively, to add a new block, scroll to the bottom of a form section and click 'add block'. By default, this will create a new short-answer question. (Please note that there is no need to manually save your work when editing a form- changes save automatically, and save status is shown in the top right of the editing screen.)
This new block can be customized in a variety of ways using the tools displayed below. Blocks you are currently editing are highlighted in blue.
To change a block's title, click on the placeholder text at the top of the block (by default, this reads 'Question') and enter your text of choice. The text below the entry field (shown by default as 'detailed instructions') can be edited in the same way, but is hidden on the final form if left unchanged.
When you've finished editing a block, click on the blue 'done' button (or anywhere outside of the highlighted area) to deselect it.
What block types are available for me to use?
While blocks are set as short-answer questions by default, a variety of options are available for different kinds of form fields, as well as for displaying content (headings, text, and images) within the form. These options can be found in the drop-down menu found just below a currently-selected block, divided by 'content' and 'input'. (Please note that blocks set as 'content' will not allow the form's recipient to enter any information- all questions you wish for the recipient to answer should be set as 'input' blocks.)
The available block types can be used as follows:
Heading: A 'content' block used to create headlines for different sections and subsections of a form. The size and style of the heading can be altered using the drop-down menu.
Text: A 'content' block used to display text on a form, useful for instructions, introductions, disclaimers, and more.
Image: Used to display an image within the form eg. an agency logo or photo of a property. (Note that this block does NOT allow the form's recipient to upload an image, this can be done using the 'File' block as detailed below)
Short Answer: The default block type, and the first type of 'input' block outlined here. Used for questions in which only a brief response is needed from the recipient completing the form.
If you'd rather this block reference and show pre-filled data in Eagle for the recipient's information (as an output type block), then please contact [email protected] and we'll arrange to add the relevant tag to the block to show the correct pre-filled data.
Long Answer: Functions the same as a Short Answer block, but allows the recipient more space for a detailed answer.
Options: A block used to create one or more check boxes that a recipient can then select and deselect. New form options can be added via the 'Add Option' button, and the labels can be edited by clicking on the text next to the check boxes. Additionally, options can be deleted via the trashcan icon, and the order of the options can be changed by clicking and dragging the 'three lines' icon (immediately next to the trashcan). The drop-down menu titled 'mode' can be used to specify whether a recipient can 'choose one' or 'choose many'- this determines whether or not multiple form options can be selected at once.
Date: Allows the recipient to enter a date in dd/mm/yy format (A calendar popup will appear on their end to ensure the date is entered correctly).
Time: Allows the recipient to enter a time (a popup will appear to assist with this also).
Date and Time: Allows the recipient to enter both a date and a time.
File: A block used to allow a form's recipient to upload their own files (eg. photo ID). The recipient will only be able to upload the file types you select via the check boxes. In this example, the recipient may only upload .jpg and .pdf files.
Signature: Used to allow the recipient to send a digital signature with their form.
How can I adjust how a block is displayed to a form's recipient?
When editing an input block, you can use the check box labelled 'required' to control whether or not a particular form field is mandatory for completion of the form (indicated by a red asterisk).
To delete any block, simply click on the trashcan icon while the block is selected. Additionally, the cog icon can be used to update a block's tags.
When this icon is clicked, a pop-up menu will appear with a variety of Tags determining how and where a block is displayed. By selecting one or more of these check boxes, it is possible to control whether or not a question should prefill from existing contact information, to hide a question from paper, web, or landlord versions of a form, and to specify whether or not an element should be included in the declaration version of a form.
How can I manage the different sections of a form?
All options relating to the sections of a form can be found on the left-hand side of the form editing screen. To navigate to a different section, simply click on the name of the section you wish to view. Form sections can be deleted by clicking on the trashcan icon next to the name of a selected form. (Note: some form sections, eg. the 'property details' section on a tenancy application form, cannot be deleted). To add a new section, scroll to the bottom of the sections column and click on 'add section'.
To edit a new or existing section's name, click on its current label and add the desired name. The names of all form sections can be edited, including sections that can't be deleted.
Can I view my forms in the same way recipients do?
Yes- clicking on the blue 'preview' button, found in the top right corner of the form editing screen, will allow you to access the version of the form that your contacts will receive.
While in Preview mode, you can not only view the sections of a form, but also fill out questions via the form's interactive elements- just as your contacts will when they receive the form. To exit Preview mode and continue editing the form, click on the green 'done' button, found in the same place as the 'preview' button.
